Harley-Davidson VRXSE Screamin' Eagle V ROD DESTROYER
Not many manufacturers produce a factory-built drag race bike but Harley-Davidson do: the 2006 Harley-Davidson VRXSE Screamin’ Eagle Destroyer.
A CVO bike produced in limited quantities, it celebrates Andrew Hines
setting the NHRA Pro-Stock record with a 6.991 quarter mile, and out of
the box will break the 10-second barrier itself. You might have seen one
or two at dealerships, where they were either on their way to
collectors or attracting people to the V-Rod section of the floor, but
Chester Harley-Davidson unwrapped theirs and sent it down the seafront
at Ramsey on the Isle of Man in the hands of local rider, Phil Wood: a
seasoned campaigned who has already set a number of track records around
the country. First time out, the Destroyer lived up to its name,
performing flawlessly against fierce competition over the eighth of a
mile of the well established Ramsey Sprint, taking first place in the
Unlimited class, and a sixth overall.
Dealer Principle, Kirk Herbert was well-pleased wit the result: “It’s
fantastic to come away from our first race with a trophy. We were using
this event to set the bike up so there is definitely a lot more to come
in the future. “Phil did a great job and was up against some tough
opposition, including several bikes with over 600 horsepower! All of the

is another notch up the performance ladder from the already quick
Screamin’ Eagle VRSCSE, clearing 1300cc from a 75mm stroker crank
coupled with a 105mm big bore, fed by 58mm throttle bodies breathing
through a pair of dyno-tuned velocity stacks, and exhausted by a
two-into-one ceramic-coated stepped header pipe … among other bits.
You
really, really don’t want to know how much that would add to the price
of your V-Rod’s retail price which is just as well, because it’s not
available, so you’ll have to find another avenue if you aspire to its
97ftlbs of torque at 7,600rpm. Keep an eye on Chester Harley-Davidson’s

On the track and down the quarter mile, racing reaches deep into Harley-Davidson’s soul. In 2005, Andrew Hines charged his way into the record books aboard his Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson pro stock drag bike, taking his second straight NHRA championship and becoming the only rider in NHRA history to break through the hallowed six-second barrier in the quarter mile. Through NHRA racing, Harley-Davidson gains exposure to more than two million spectators annually (nearly half under age 35) and to a national ES PN audience for each event.
And races are obviously great ride destinations. Together with the race-ready Harley-Davidson Destroyer (below), drag racing is a robust marketing tool that builds brand equity, affinity for the V-Rod platform and product demand across the Harley-Davidson family of products.
